Mardi Gras – lots of color, movement, and dancing.

This one just screams Mardi Gras to me.
The image is an illustration from antique book – Real Sailor Songs, published in 1891. My first step was to transfer the image to recycled copper, then I permanently etched it in. To add the yellow, I covered the entire thing with powdered glass enamel, heated it up to about 1500 degrees so the glass melted and fused to the copper. Then, I ground down the surface until I revealed the etched image.
I chose a variety of dyed agate to finish off the piece. So much color and movement and dancing!
