Etched and enameled images from antique books

For ages, I’ve been trying to figure out how to add color my etched pieces. I LOVE the images from antique books, and I really do like the plain metal colors – but I wanted to add variety. I’ve played with several methods for adding color, but have not been particularly happy with any of them.

Until now.

I’ve finally figured out how to add glass enamel into the recesses of my etched pieces – and it’s so very cool! I am having so much fun playing with this idea, and am looking forward to getting these out at shows to see what the reaction is.

This image is taken from “Real Sailor Songs” published in the late 1800’s.

A fabulous resource

I’ve had many people ask me where I’m getting the images for my etched cuffs – here’s the link: British Library online image catalog

Consider yourself warned – it’s WAY too easy to get sucked in! I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours I’ve spent browsing the images, and then reading the accompanying books. Have fun!
