Carnelian and Hebron beads

Out of stock

Description

Lots of history in this piece.

The top beads are old carnelian. Carnelian is a very popular stone throughout Africa and the middle east.

The big yellow beads are Hebron beads. These old glass beads can be hard to find and are very collectible. They were made in Hebron prior to 1880 and could be as old as 500 years, as this type of bead first came into production just after the 12th century. They are wound glass and were made using Dead Sea salts as their alkali.

The black beads on the dangles came from a Tuareg necklace that I took apart.
