For ages, I’ve been trying to figure out how to add color my etched pieces. I LOVE the images from antique books, and I really do like the plain metal colors – but I wanted to add variety. I’ve played with several methods for adding color, but have not been particularly happy with any of them.
I’ve finally figured out how to add glass enamel into the recesses of my etched pieces – and it’s so very cool! I am having so much fun playing with this idea, and am looking forward to getting these out at shows to see what the reaction is.
I’m still working with these images from antique books – loving browsing through the library looking for images to use! This is a project sponsored by the British Library in order to preserve this old art. I hope I’m doing it justice!
I’m hooked on etching! A while ago I discovered a treasure trove – thousands of images scanned in from antique books. Most of the images are from the 1700’s or 1800’s, and are exquisite. I’ve been able to download them, manipulate them in Photoshop, and then etch them into brass cuffs. So much fun!
